Check out these top historical museums DUBAI MUSEUM Easily the best museum in the city, the centre is a treasure trove of local antiquities such as musical instruments, Arabic knives, spears and pottery. Set in the 220-year-old Al Fahidi Fort, the museum recreates scenes from Dubai Creek, mosques, souks and desert and sea life. THE HOUSE OF SHEIKH SAEED AL MAKTOUM One of the oldest houses in the city, this proud reminder of Dubai’s pre-oil era features wind towers and a majlis (seating) area. It also houses a collection of fascinating historical photographs, some dating back to the late 1800s. DUBAI MUNICIPALITY MUSEUM Constructed in the mid-1950s, this museum is tucked away near Deira’s bustling Spice Souk. Offering a rare glimpse into the history of Dubai’s civic body, it contains royal decrees issued by late rulers and rare photographs of the emirate. AL AHMADIYA SCHOOL & HERITAGE HOUSE Established in 1912 and attended by Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the prime catalyst of the development of modern Dubai, the school guides visitors with touch screens and life-size dioramas. The house meanwhile features a majlis room, kitchen, bedrooms, cattle pen and bride’s room adorned with pillows and Persian rugs.
